Ojala alguien pueda hacer una mejor película con esta idea en un futuro. I enjoyed this film for the most part. It has very good atmosphere, acting, and cinematography. Overall, the story holds your attention & feels pretty creepy throughout. However, the latter part of the movie gets a bit muddled, which makes the conclusion feel a bit confusing at first. Still, it’s film-within-a-film setup is interesting and I’d say it’s definitely worth a watch. Perfect for a rainy day. Entertaining abliet light on scares. Stylistically harkens back to the j horror boom of early 2000s. Unfortunately drops the ball in its rambling, incoherent 3rd act. A fun movie about a lost horror movie with some good creepiness. The first half is really spooky getting into the mystery, but once things hit the fan it lost me a little. Still, not a bad watch. While I did like this film more than I disliked it, it was very close. It had some cool gore and a few genuinely creepy sequences. But like... it didn't make a whole lot of sense and in its efforts to be clever or meta it ends up eating its own tail and choking on it a little bit. Does that make any sense at all? I dunno, it's like 3am right now. Anyway; the characters are somewhat interesting and… Warning Do Not Play is just the another average Korean horror film, but good average one. I thought its gonna be silly and stupid execution but the amount of suspense there is not that bad. I liked that this one is not just a horror movie with tsunami of jumpscares but to think about the story plot is easy to catch, but also not cheap. This is also quite brutal, I adored it. She has been contracted to make a film on the back of film festival success but is struggling to come up with the goods. With her final deadline looming, things look bleak, her dreams provide her with some ideas but not enough. As luck would have it, good friend and former colleague Joon-Seo Yoon-ho Ji – In Between Seasons, Argon remembers a rumour that he heard. A student filmmaker produced a film for his graduation project which was supposedly so scary that half the audience ran out and one of them died of a cardiac arrest. Unfortunately he knows neither the title nor the year it was made, just the University. Spotting an opening, Mi-Jung heads off to Daejeon University to investigate, but runs up against resistance there too until she speaks to the students, who all know the rumours about the film “Warning”, supposedly made by a ghost. Finally, she is able to track down director Kim Jae-hun Seon-kyu Jin – The Outlaws, Kingdom, however he is less than pleased to see her and offers a stark warning to leave well alone. Of course she does not do this and events begin to spiral out of control as the lines between truth and fiction blur. Warning Do Not Play is an interesting addition to the haunted film genre. It approaches from several angles, traditional horror film style for Mi-Jung’s activities and found footage style for the actual film she is researching, as well as a making-of feature. Clever as all this is however, it does eventually result in the story becoming a little fragmented and rather confusing and difficult to follow in places. It does have a good and very surprising twist and the whole thing is carried by an excellent acting performance by Ye-ji Seo who really makes it believable. The majority of the horror comes towards the end of the film, prior to that it is more of a mystery. Once it arrives it is a blood soaked eyeball fest and quite satisfying. Of course, it features a director who's painfully hipster in appearance, who seems like an idealised projection of the writer-director of Warning Do Not Play. With a premise that sounds more suited for an art film than a horror film although it could be both, the movie promises much but delivers something else mm2 EntertainmentThe film centres on struggling director Mi-Jung Seo Yea-Ji who learns of a legendary horror film and goes on a quest to unearth it and find the director of that film, who seems to have gone insane. However, she finds out that there may be some truth in his incoherent ramblings, and finds herself getting pulled into circumstances that led to the creation of the horror mm2 EntertainmentBeing a horror movie affords the chance for interesting and metaphorical visuals, which the film has in spades. It's an interesting bit of artistry, especially when the story goes off on a figurative tangent and blurs the line between reality and the imagination of the characters. The visuals are enjoyable, but the story gets lost in the process. The film can get very disjointed at times, especially when it comes to the horror mm2 EntertainmentHowever, the horror scenes are relatively limited, being left mainly for the third act and to open the film. The bulk of the movie is actually a mystery, one in which Mi-Jung solves sort of by finding the creator of the film she's been looking for. It's probably better categorised as a mystery rather than as horror, given that you're not really that scared for most of the mm2 EntertainmentMain character Mi-Jung looks unlike any director you've ever seen which is good, but bears all the mannerisms and neuroticisms of one which isn't. Perhaps that's why in the story, she projects herself into a character in the film that she's making, as her friend points out. Ironically, it seems like exactly what the actual director of Warning Do Not Play did with Mi-Jung, which makes it a rather meta reference to be had. Then you have the two fictional films in the movie itself — the one that Mi-Jung is looking for, and the one that she creates, Both of them are titled Warning Do Not Play, in a very circular, self-referential bit of mm2 EntertainmentYou do empathise with Mi-Jung over time though, partly due to her portrayal as a nervous wreck who has great faith in her vision for a movie, but isn't quite sure what that vision is. She's a difficult character to play, but Seo Yea-Ji manages to pull it off and express the different facets of her character over the course of the movie. Mi-Jung's misplaced faith also mirrors the direction of Warning Do Not Play itself — you can't quite shake the fact that the overall direction of the movie is murky, at mm2 EntertainmentDespite its short runtime, there are some very lengthy, sleep-inducing scenes which could have been trimmed for time. These differ from the talking heads scenes, which do discuss some fairly intriguing topics. But as a movie that borders on arthouse, it's inevitable that some indulgent scenes would have creeped their way in — which they mm2 EntertainmentWarning Do Not Play is more of a mystery movie than anything else, with some horror elements. With only two weeks to deliver a script before her development deal falls through, the young writer begins to investigate the urban legend of a student film so frightening it caused chaos – and even a heart attack – at its premiere. But the salacious story doesn’t stop there. Rumor has it the picture was actually created by a ghost that killed the production’s crew before making the movie herself. Unfortunately, while there is plenty of lore surrounding the feature, there aren’t many facts. The filmmakers, and even the movie’s name, seem to be lost. The only clue Mi-Jung has is the name of the school the doomed film team attended. Things become increasingly spooky as Mi-Jung dives deeper into the mystery. Turns out the film was selected for a festival, but the screening was canceled. When she finally tracks down the director, the terrified Jae-Hyun Seon-Kyu Jin demands she forget the film and start “going to church.” Even the movie itself – when she finally gets ahold of it – appears to be a “making of” documentary rather than the fabled horror film. As the lines between real life and the film she’s hunting began to blur, Mi-Jung finds herself faced with increasing threats both tactile and supernatural. WARNING DO NOT PLAY is a terrific story that deftly expands on modern ghost tales and found footage film tropes to create something fresh. Writer/director Kim Jin-wons love of the genre is on full display as the story zooms around every twist and turn. The central mystery is compelling and keeps you leaning forward as Mi-Jung’s efforts uncover increasingly horrifying details of just what happened to the makers of this enigmatic movies. There’s really not a dull moment in the eight-six minute runtime. Along with cinematographer Young-soo Yoon, Kim creates some breathtaking images that will stick with you. One of the standout sequences comes when the supernatural elements first take hold. Kim and Yoon raise the visual stakes by balancing the stark white light of a camera phone with saturated reds and blues that would make Dario Argento proud. Indeed, red and blue are a subtle theme throughout this movie, with red acting as a surrogate for the menacing force unknowingly seeping into the protagonist’s life. But it’s not just the colors that are captivating. The best images in a ghost story are ones that recreate that gut-dropping moment when a shadowy outline tricks the brain into seeing a human form that isn’t there. It’s an important shot to nail, and Kim captures it perfectly. Ye-ji Seo carries the film effortlessly as the plucky horror-loving Mi-Jung; while Seon-Kyu Jin’s performance as the film-within-a-film’s director will leave you just as shaken as any spectral threat. So should you put WARNING DO NOT PLAY on your must-watch list? I think so. Just be forewarned.
